Sioux Falls Webmasters Group
I think that Sioux Falls really needs a webmasters group that meets monthly. Meetings could be held anywhere there is some WiFi access. It would bring many benefits to those who attended the meetings. We could discuss site design, programming and of course SEO. Sioux Falls SEO
In Sioux Falls there are several PR 5 websites and maybe even a six I don’t know about.
Almost all of these are city websites or local news stations. As far as local people having higher PR sites I think that I will be the first. All I know is that I wanna get me some of that. I currently have two PR 2 websites. MyPlaceFinder.net and Pro360Tours.com. I am looking for some extra help in getting to a 4 or 5. All I need is some more incoming links. I almost got a site wide one way link from a local PR4 real estate site by doing some work for them but it didn’t quite work out. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and maybe I can still get the link. A lot of link building is like marketing. Finding the right people at the right time and hitting them with the right message. Sounds simple but in reality it can be a daunting task. I am now just working on creating enough content to get the links I need.
I found that one good way to get the links I need is to find people who link to high PR sites in Sioux Falls and to the city sites. Some of them have been willing to give me links. I even got a link from the Sioux Falls Mayor’s website YoungSiouxFalls.com. WooT!

Trade Links Locally
By far the most important part of SEO is incoming links. If you have incoming links you become better ranked, better looking, and able to pick up chicks way better. Ok so maybe the girls won’t come flocking but it will help you make more money in whatever you are doing. At least if your conversion rates are high. But that is best left for another blog. There are several ways of getting incoming links. The easiest is going to a site that offers to give you 50,000,000 links for one low price. Sure you get fifty million links but they all do nothing but say your site is spam. Incoming links that come from shit give you shit. The next way is getting listed in directories. Getting listing in a directory is great if the page its coming from has high pagerank or if it is going to in the future. Telling a pages PR in the future is a little harder to do. I generally just look at the pages incoming links and what there PR is and sometimes who links to them.
Spam Rising!
Another way to get links is to email people for them. You would think this would work great and in the past it did. Now though is a different story. If you email someone they will generally think it is spam just because they get so many of them. DELETED! I have yet to find out how to get this to work more than 1% of the time. A very good way is to setup meetings with local webmasters or business owners and setup a local link exchange. Real People = No Spam! It works great if the owners know how much good it can do them. I have found that if you can meet with the webmaster of a company it works much better. Generally people who are not very tech savy will not understand how linking helps sites. They still see it as banner ads and giving away traffic.

Teach an SEO Class!
Ok so I haven’t actually done this yet but I’m about to setup a free SEO class for local business owners and webmasters. Spend a couple hours teaching people how much links will help them and then exchange tons of links at the end. What could be better? I will let you know how this goes in future blogs.

Becoming number one in Rental
One of my biggest projects at the moment is MyPlaceFinder – Sioux Falls Rentals I have been working with the site for a few years to try and become the top Sioux Falls Rental listing site. After all this work I am currently at number 2. I am realizing that becoming number one is going to take more work. Or maybe I can just get a PR5 link from someone who reads this :p But seriously I should be number one within a year.
The site currently generates about 3,000 users a month which could be enough. I think that once I get my mind set on being number one it just turns into a one track course and does anything it takes to get there. Sometimes I find myself asking “is being number one really that important?” Hell yes it is. If I was number one I would probably have 10,000 unique visits a month. Sometimes I wish I could just pay off google to become number one! I bet anyone involved in SEO feels that way sometimes though. If only google didn’t believe in do no evil haha. I am having a few problems getting pagerank to flow down my site but I think I have it pretty well under control now. So I have the framework I just need more links. So if you are still reading this and would like to trade links let me know I wanna be number ONE!

Malware Bytes
I was recently fixing a broken PC for one of my clients and it had the koobface virus on it
and that was a pain in the ass. I tried to remove it with AVG and with SpyBot and nothing worked. I eventually just went in and modified the registry and deleted the files associated with the virus. That took care of the problem but I couldn’t help but thinking there has to be a better way. Later that night I found the program Malware Bytes. It said it gets rid of that virus so I figured I’d give it a try next time. Well the next time came the next day when another client brought in a PC with the same problem. This time I ran Malware Bytes and it cleared it up in 10min. I was amazed. This is a program that everyone should have in there arsenal.

Blogging and SEO
There are more and more “make your blog here” type sites popping up everyday. 
Some of them even have relatively high PageRank. The problem with this is that nearly all of these blog in a box sites have no follow tags and you don’t have your own domain to transfer PageRank to your other projects.
I think that making a page on one of those sites could be somewhat useful but I don’t see the point of it in comparison to making a blog on a domain that you own. If you don’t own the domain you have much less control over what you do with it.
